The exports from the Kansai region increased by 6.1% yr/yr to JPY1,316.4 billions last month (April 2007). This is the 61st consecutive month of increase. The imports also increased by 8.4% to JPY1,089.4 billions last month.
As for destinations, the exports to the U.S. decreased by 1.1 %. Both the export and import of communication devices to/from Asian countries increased more than 50% with the emergence of the Asian division of labor for cell phone manufacturers.
The Kansai region, located in the western part of Japan, consists of Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Shiga, Nara, and Wakayama Prefectures.
